COMPRESSION (2023)
Alcohol marker, colored pencil, and pen on paperExperimenting with the way that fabric can be manipulated through smocking, I designed pieces that can be worn in two different ways on the body. This allows the wearer to choose how they want their clothing to fit: whether to conform to silhouettes as trends go in and out, or adapt to the changing nature of people’s minds - all without having to own multiple pieces to achieve different looks. When the fabric is smocked and brought closer to the body through the pull of a thread, the garment accentuates parts of the figure. Alternatively, when the fabric is not smocked, the wearer can have a looser silhouette.
