REVERIE (2025)

Silk dupioni, eyelets, silk thread

I wanted to see the different ways a traditional sari’s undergarments, including the blouse and underskirt, could be abstracted through the manipulation of fabric. I replicated a pleating technique for the skirt similar to that of Mariano Fortuny, creating many tiny folds in the fabric. The top is made from fraying various strips of silk dupioni, leaning into the natural tendencies of the fabric’s weave to fray and separate.

Laser-cut silk flowers out of the same fabric as the bodice. Strung onto thread to form a garland called a gajra, that decorates the hair, as is common during South Asian celebrations.
